Anniversary Events Announced
STAMFORD,
CT – The Yerwood Center today announced, at a
reception honoring its donors and supporters, that Eugene Campbell
is the new executive director. Mr. Campbell begins his new duties
on May 23, 2008.
“We’re extremely pleased that Eugene has
agreed to lead Yerwood,” stated Richard Tannenbaum, Board member and
Yerwood spokesman. “He was selected from a field of 41 candidates.
He has more than 20 years of community center experience, as well as
strong fiscal planning and program development experience. The
Board believes that Eugene is the right person for the job and that
he is a great fit for Yerwood and this community, especially as we
begin out 65th year of fulfilling Dr. Joyce Yerwood’s
original mission.”
The announcement was made at Yerwood’s 65th
Anniversary Kickoff event, a Chocolate and Wine Tasting attended by
Yerwood’s individual, corporate and foundation donors. “We wanted
to start our anniversary celebration by thanking the many donors who
have supported Yerwood through the years, Tannenbaum, who is also
chairman of the 65th Anniversary Committee, commented.
“Without their continued financial support of our programs and
operations we would not be able to continue to serve the community.”
A wide variety of activities are planned to
celebrate the Center’s anniversary. They include: a Swimathon on
May 17 beginning at 1 p.m. in the new Yerwood Aquatics Center; an
Yerwood alumni open house on May 24; a community crafts & arts fair
and jazz music festival on June 28 at the Jackie Robinson Park and
Yerwood Center; a community crafts & arts fair and gospel music
celebration on August 30 at the Jackie Robinson Park and Yerwood
Center; and a final gala celebration featuring the Alvin Ailey II
dance troupe on October 25 at the Palace Theatre.
All events, except the final gala, are free
to the community. Craft and art vendors are now being sought for
