  • Great Success in the Hispanic Health Fair

  • On September 22nd, our Gym hosted the Hispanic Health Fair 2007. There were 586 attendants who enjoyed the free services from 48 vendors. The event was organized by the HACGS (Hispanic Advisory Council of Greater Stamford) and sponsored by the Yerwood Center
  • The National Kidney Foundation attended more than 60 clients, offering for free  a $800 value to each one. Great success for vendors and the community!!!

In 2002, we [The Advocate] named him a Leader in the community. Since then, his continued service on the board of the Yerwood Center - where he served as a board chairman for the past four years and was honored for his leadership last year - has further demonstrated that his involvement was no passing fancy. In addition, he was a cofounder of Stamford Achieves, where his management and conceptual skills helped the fledgling group focus its efforts to address the educational gap between white and minority students... Yerwood Center Inc. Announce

Opening of Free Tax Return Preparation Sites

 

Mayor Malloy urges residents to take advantage of free service and avoid paying unnecessary high tax preparation fees

Mayor Dannel Malloy will hold a press conference with the Yerwood Center, Inc and CTE, Inc. on Monday to announce the opening of two free tax preparation sites in Stamford.  These Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites will assist low-income residents with tax preparation services and educate people about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). 

VITA sites provide low-income residents with free tax preparation as well as connect clients with asset building opportunities to improve their standard of living.  The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates that every taxpayer who files at a VITA site saves at least $160.  Over 5,000 Stamford residents qualify for EITC and are eligible to have their taxes prepared for free at CTE, Inc. or Yerwood.
